This is a fantastic example of the "dressing room montage", save for the guy who only seems to be there to take all the fun out of it. Some women like to try on poufy dresses for fun. So what? He tells her she looks like a shiny mermaid. It's rude to tell a woman she looks like a fish. Anyway, moving on.
So take out the guy and you have a great dressing room montage! She tries on tons and tons of dresses! I mean, LOTS of dresses! In tulle, silk, sateen, cotton, poly blend, poly cotton blend, poly silk blend, poly poly blend, etc. They also come in an array of colors and themes (dude ranch, Little Bo Peep, deep sea diving!) It's so fun! You can tell she loves all the fun dresses because she dances in them! (Even though Mr. Dress Hater tries to convince her she's better than all these cheap, tear stained rags to which she desperately clings to.) Did I mention all the fun dresses?
At the end of the scene she says, "One day it will be my day." That makes me sad. Why can't she see that she just had her day?
